3.5 starsThis is one fun and entertaining read that I finish in less than a day. Is a story about lost, haunted past, how to live your life, let go of your fear and embrace the future.
The prologue was pretty heartbreaking and really got to me. We were given glimpse into Jet's ugly childhood at the hands of his abusive father. Then we move to Jasmin with her brother who had succumb to cancer. The scene where her brother, Ryan told her before his last breathe make me cried so hard. Mine you, I'm only at 2%. That just prove how powerful the writing it.
Moving on six months later, Jasmin was desperate in need to find a job to overcome her piling debts. She found a job as a photographer journalist for Wild Child magazine. Her first assignment was to fly to Mexico to interview a stuntman name Jet Sterling on set.
Jet Sterling loves the adrenaline rush that his work can provide him. Those were the times when he can be himself and forget about his past. He had this easy going, flirty and goofy front that he showed people, but deep down he was a lost soul. He was having a hard time to connect with people and his current issue with his brother, Jasper had left him feeling helpless.
Their first encounter at the set was hilarious, it threw me off guard on how Jasmin react to Jet's blatant come on. Anyway, after the initial misunderstanding, they quickly settled their differences and started to engage professionally. However, whenever Jasmin probe Jet about his past, he will flipped out on her, much to her surprise.
It doesn't seems quite fitting to say that they had a whirlwind romance because is not like they were sleeping together, but they did get very close in a few days time, sharing about their past and both of them were freaking out about how they affect each other. These two have a lot of burden on them. Jasmin worry about the risk she was taking, not only her job, but her heart. How can she bear being with a man who might one day die on her while he works? She had experience enough death as it is. While Jet always deemed himself broken and will screw up everything at the end of the day.
When Jasmin take a time out by flying back home and did some soul searching, she discover her true passion and pursue it. I guess during the time apart, both of them finally realize what they had wanted all along and they should just throw caution to the wind. Sometimes you just need to take a leap of faith and see how things work out.
The author gave us a little twist at the ending, but considering this is a standalone romance,I had no doubt everything will work out fine anyway. So I didn't actually experience the shock value there. I can foresee future books on Jasper and Lily though. Is gonna be interesting to see how Lily healed the broken boy.
